2. Beyond SQL Habit course: Practice, Chart and Mock Interviews

SQL Habit started as a course and business simulator that follows the story of a startup. Over the years, with students’ feedback, SQL Habit has grown into something much bigger, and now we need a whole new lesson to showcase these additional sections.

The first one is the Practice exercises section.

Practice exercises

The idea behind this new collection of exercises is to provide a place where you can practice new skills in different environments.

Practice exercises are based on all 6 datasets in SQL Habit.

Some are work-related:

• Bundle: a mockup data warehouse of a book app (the dataset behind the course)
• Live dataset: a mockup data warehouse of a meditation app where data is updated daily
• E-commerce
• Finance

And some are fun datasets:

• Movies: a simulation of an IMDb database
• NBA: a dataset very close to real NBA data since the league’s beginning

Unlike course exercises that expect numbers or text values as answers, in the Practice section, you submit SQL queries.

Every Practice exercise is automatically evaluated, and you get a detailed explanation afterward.

Mock Interviews

Mock Interview is a format to help you prepare for technical Data Analysis/SQL interviews.

You’ll be given 2 Practice exercises (one easy, one hard) that you need to complete within 30 minutes (just like in a real interview).

Chart

Chart is SQL Habit’s own dashboarding tool.

At work, you’ll be using BI (Business Intelligence) tools like Looker Studio, Metabase, Tableau, etc., where you write SQL to create charts.

Chart is a place to practice working with timelines (line charts), distributions (pie and bar charts), and more.
